Words are like superheros.
Before you laugh at me, let me explain. First, much like Clark Kent in a suit and tie, they have power that is often underestimated. Not to mention their superhero abilities: time travel (we still have books written thousands of years ago), shape-shifting (how many different ways are there to say the word "big"?), and superspeed (thanks to modern technology.)
Think about the moment in a good film or book when a once normal person suddenly discovers they have some sort of an unnatural ability. You can immediately guess that someone is going to get hurt. The problem isn't necessarily that they intend to use this newfound power to inflict harm. The problem is that they underestimate that power.
How often are we that person? Maybe you don't wake up on a subway only to discover you have superhuman strength or spider-like abilities, but you certainly underestimate your power.
Or more specifically, the power of your words. Words can tear down or build up, reach out or stab someone in the back, comfort or control. They have an incredible power that, all too often, goes unnoticed.
And with modern day technology, their power is only growing. Facebook, Twitter, Youtube, the list is endless. They all clamor for you words, your opinions, your thoughts, and your feelings. And in response, you tweet about the sandwich you're eating?
You have the ability to reach thousands with your message. Don't waste words.
What will you say?
